We Bought a House!

Happy Friday Everyone! Whew what a crazy ride the last couple months have been for us!

When Kent got home (from his Army “vacation”) in August, we immediately started looking for a small piece of land to build our next home on.  Unfortunately, we just couldn’t find a lot that we loved, in the area we wanted AND be able to afford the house we’d planned to build. We LOVED our last house in Indiana, but our number one complaint was that we wished we had a bigger lot, with more privacy and big trees. Kent grew up on 15 acres that backed up to a state forest so the land was really important for him. For me, the house size was more of a priority. We already have two kids, we still want more, Kent and I both need an office, and I really wanted a guest suite so we can host our out-of-town family when they’re here. Needless to say, our house plans got pretty big and we couldn’t find a lot that we loved near Roman’s school and our family in Williamson County. So we scratched that plan and started looking at older homes with big lots in our preferred areas.

This was actually the first house we made an appointment to see! We were SOLD on the location and yard, but I didn’t want to just buy the first one we saw. So we toured some more, made an offer on another one, lost it, and kept coming back to this one. We put in an offer, got it accepted, and then after a CRAZY closing fiasco that got canceled, rescheduled, CANCELLED AGAIN (once we were at the title office) and rescheduled again, it’s finally ours!

The location, lot and size of the house is perfect! The layout and finishes are all 30+ years old so we plan to update the inside (and outside) room-by-room over the next year. Once we finish though, I feel like we’ll have exactly what we wanted.

We got to meet the owners of the house last week and they couldn’t be sweeter. They showed us around the house and property for over an hour. They have lived there for 26 years and have taken such good care of the home. The walls were covered in family pictures and you could just tell that it has been filled with so much love and many happy memories. I think I’ve told Kent 100 times already, “It just feels so good and ‘homey’ in here. I love it.”

Thank you all for your sweet comments and messages this week. I have loved reading them. We are so excited and I love how excited y’all are for us. I started a highlight on my Instagram story so you guys can follow along with the process! I’ll plan to blog here too as each room is finished. For now, here’s some sneak peaks of our “before”. “Afters” coming soon (I hope).

Xoxo
