When it came to packing for NYFW I’ll admit, I got overwhelmed quickly. I’ve been to New York City before, but I’ve never attended Fashion Week, so I really wasn’t sure what to expect. The thought of being surrounded by fashionistas and other “big wigs” in the industry had me feeling pretty intimidated about what I should pack and wear.

After ordering waaaaaaaayyy too much stuff, and feeling even more confused when it all arrived, I finally decided to just stick to what I know and how I always dress (when I’m not in leggings). I mixed good low budgets finds with a few high end splurges and I opted for comfort, while still trying to look pulled together.

This tee ($24) is probably one of my most worn items ever. It has a really good loose, slouchy fit and I think I own it in three different colors now. These jeans ($88) are AMAZING too! I am super picky about jeans but these I love! I have worn and washed them so much already and they have kept their shape and color so well. I love when I can wear jeans all day and they don’t stretch out! These metallic loafers are another steal I found ($30)! I had so many people stop and ask me where they were from or say that they loved them. I walked quite a bit in them too and they were super comfortable. My sunnies ($89) are oldies, but such goodies. I’ve had these for about a year and a half and I still wear them on a weekly basis. They come in a few different colors but the ones I’m wearing are the Matte Black/Gold option. My watch (I got mine on sale), this bag, and my blazer were definitely more of a splurge for me. But they’re all so neutral and classic that I think I will get a ton of wear out of them year round.

Once I got there, all my anxiety about “looking the part” completely melted away. Every one really does wear WHATEVER they want and there’s no right or wrong thing to be in. There were people rocking everything from full couture gowns to $10 Forever 21 graphic tees to nothing at all (seriously, I saw a girl on the street just wearing pasties and pants). It was kind of amazing that everyone looked so different and did their own thing. Rachel Zoe said, “Style is a way to say who you are, without having to speak.” So I guess I’m a gray tee shirt, a ripped pair of jeans and really, really good bag.
